Introducing PDF to Markdown Support in Adobe PDF Extract API

Developers have been using the Adobe PDF Extract API to programmatically unlock structured content from PDFs with high-fidelity JSON output. Today, we’re expanding that capability with a highly requested addition: 🚀 PDF to Markdown Output Is Now AvailableIn addition to structured JSON, the Extract API can now convert PDFs directly into clean, well-formatted Markdown. This gives you two powerful output options: Structured JSON → Ideal for data pipelines, analytics, compliance workflows, and fine-grained structural processing. Markdown → Optimized for LLM ingestion, documentation systems, search indexing, and content publishing workflows. Same extraction intelligence. New output format. Why Markdown? If you're building modern AI or content workflows, chances are you’re transforming JSON into Markdown somewhere downstream anyway. Now you don’t have to.The new Markdown output: Preserves document hierarchy (headings, sections) Converts tables into native Markdown table syntax Maintains logical reading order Preserves lists and inline formatting Embeds figures as base64 for flexible downstream handling The result: LLM-ready content out of the box.No additional parsing. No custom transformers. No brittle formatting logic. Built for AI & Developer WorkflowsThis new option is especially valuable for:🔎 Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)Generate clean Markdown chunks for vector indexing without building a post-processing layer.🤖 LLM Prompt PipelinesFeed structured, readable content directly into prompts or fine-tuning datasets.📚 Documentation MigrationConvert large PDF documentation libraries into Markdown for static site generators (e.g., Hugo, Docusaurus, MkDocs).🔄 Content ModernizationMove legacy PDF content into searchable knowledge bases with minimal transformation logic. When Should You Use JSON vs. Markdown?Use JSON When You Need Use Markdown When You Need Precise structural metadata Human-readable structured text Element-level manipulation LLM-friendly input Advanced analytics workflows Documentation / publishing workflows Custom rendering logic Faster AI integration You now choose the format that best fits your architecture. 🔭 What’s Next: Chunking for AI-Ready WorkflowsWe’re not stopping here.We know that developers building LLM-powered applications often need more than clean content — they need intelligently segmented content.Stay tuned for further development as we plan to introduce chunking capabilities directly within the Extract API. This will help developers automatically break down PDF content into structured, semantically meaningful chunks — optimized for: Vector database ingestion Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) Context window management Fine-tuning dataset preparation Our goal is to reduce the amount of custom preprocessing logic developers need to build when integrating PDFs into AI systems. Learn MoreYou can explore the full PDF Extract API documentation here:👉 https://developer.adobe.com/document-services/docs/overview/pdf-extract-api/

[Now in Beta] Introducing Smooth Mode in Object Mask

We’re excited to release a new Smooth mode in Object mask to Beta which will let you create masks which handle fine edges better.  When creating an Object Mask, you can now choose between Sharp and Smooth modes to achieve the best results for your specific masking needs. What's new The new Smooth mode creates masks with softer edges that are better suited for fine edges and detailed objects. This enhancement allows you to handle complex masking scenarios more effectively without compromising quality.  Sharp mode Smooth modeMask quality modes Sharp mode Sharp mode continues to create masks as they are currently created, with crisp, well-defined edges. This mode is ideal for: Objects with clear, distinct boundaries  Standard masking workflows Smooth mode Smooth mode creates masks with softer edges that provide superior handling of fine details. This mode is particularly useful for: Objects with intricate or delicate edges  Hair, fur, or fabric textures  Subjects with semi-transparent or translucent elements  Situations requiring natural-looking edge blending Creating masks with quality modes Follow these steps to create an Object Mask with your preferred quality mode. Select a clip  Select a clip on the timeline that you want to mask.  Access the Object Mask Tool Find the new Mask Tool group in the toolbar.  Long-press on the tool group to see all the masking options.  Choose the Object Mask Tool. Object Mask Tool in Tool tray Choose mask quality Before creating the mask, choose between Sharp or Smooth mode from the quality options.  Object Mask Options in Program Monitor Select the object Hover over the Program Monitor and watch as objects are identified automatically.  Click on the desired object or person to create the mask, similar to the standard Object Mask workflow. Apply an effect Find an effect in the Effect Panel, such as Gaussian Blur.  Drop the effect on the clip in the timeline.  The mask will automatically be applied to the effect. Viewing mask quality Once you've created an Object Mask, you can view which quality mode was applied: Open the Effect Controls Panel.  Locate the mask in the effects stack.  Next to the Mask name you'll see either "Sharp" or "Smooth" displayed, indicating which mode was selected to create that mask.  Mask Type in ECP In earlier Beta builds you could Switch mask quality modes from Smooth to Sharp (and the other way around). This has been disabled for now until we have a better way to change mode without users losing their masks and tracking data. Now, if you made a Smooth mask and wanted a Sharp mask instead, delete your earlier mask and use Object Mask to create a new Sharp mask (remember to choose your new mask quality in Program monitor) Best practices To get the best results with Smooth mask quality: Choose Smooth mode for subjects with fine details like hair, fur, or intricate patterns  Use Sharp mode for objects with clear, defined edges  Start masking from a frame where the object is most prominently visible  Test both modes to see which works better for your specific footage  Consider the limitations of Smooth mode (no extension capability) when planning your workflow Known issues Project compatibility with version 26.0 If a project containing a mask created in Smooth mode is opened in Premiere version 26.0, the mask will not be rendered properly. Editing and saving a project with Smooth mode masks in version 26.0 could damage the mask data and corrupt the mask permanently  This feature is available from Build 37. Your feedback helps improve these features. Please engage with the beta community forum to report: Bugs and technical issues, feature requests and suggestions, quality feedback on mask results and workflow improvement ideas

New in AE Beta: Depth of Field in Advanced 3D

Outstanding in our (Depth of) Field  Hello beta users! Version 26.2.033 of After Effects Beta introduces support for in-engine Depth of Field in Advanced 3D.This is an entirely new method of creating Depth of Field that works with 3D models, parametric meshes, Substance 3D materials, 3D text and shape layers, and anything else you want to focus on in Advanced 3D. It even handles multiple levels of overlapping transparency, so you can do things like focus on a subject through a window: Even though we are viewing our characters through a foreground transparent layer that should be blurry, they are rendered in perfect focus. To enable depth of field in your scene, set your composition to the Advanced 3D renderer, add a Camera layer and check the Depth of Field box. By default, After Effects will approximate a physical camera. Depth of Field can add compelling realism to an AE scene. In this subtle example you can see the smooth animation from the foreground focus to the background across a 3D scene. Model by  Ethica Depth of Field in Advanced 3D includes four simple, animatable controls:The default Focus Distance varies according to which camera you select (50mm, 35mm etc) and assumes you want to focus on a z value of 0, which is where most layers are created by default. There are lots of ways to override this, for example:  Select both the camera and the layer you want to focus on and go to Layer > Camera > Link Focus Distance to Layer (links the camera to the layer with an expression)  Set Focus Distance to Layer (sets the current property value but doesn’t create a live link) Link Focus Distance to Point of Interest will use the camera itself to control focus distance. As in Classic 3D, Aperture controls the maximum blur in your scene.  Focus Area Width is an “artistic override” that determines the thickness of the focal region in the frame. This will enable you to keep nearby objects or layers of your scene fully in focus, even if the result is not optically correct. In the left image we wanted our imported 3D model to look like a small diorama with shallow depth of field. However, the default blur is so shallow that the pawn is in focus, while the king he is threatening is blurry. Focus Area Width allows you to artificially increase the  “focus slice” (right) so that all of your important elements are clear. Model by: RaduCarstean • Another “artistic override” control, Near, Far Blur Level allows you to discretely amplify or reduce the blur in front of or behind the focal plane. Adjust them together (the default) to exaggerate your results beyond a real-world lens, or tweak them individually to suit your design needs—for example, set the “far” level to 0 to produce a “focus to infinity” scene while still blurring elements in the foreground.  In the left image, the default Depth of Field setting blurs the foreground as expected, but also softens the background, which makes the scene look artificially small. Turning down the Far blur level (right) to 0 allows us to “focus to infinity”, producing a pleasing result. Model by: David Jávorcsík Pro Tip: Depth of Field quality is controlled by the general Render Quality slider in Render Options. If you see a “ripple” effect when animating the Focus Distance or animating the z-position of an object through a fixed focus, increase the quality. Artifacts should not be visible outside of very low quality settings. However—as you’d probably expect—higher quality depth of field will increase render times. Please give this new functionality a try and let us know how it’s working for you.

Introducing Dynamic Participations In Acrobat Sign

At Adobe, we are committed to empowering users with tools that make document workflows more flexible, efficient, and tailored to their needs. With the introduction of Dynamic Participation, Acrobat Sign unlocked additional control over agreements — both before and after they've been sent for signature. This feature is designed to adapt to evolving business requirements, ensuring seamless collaboration and streamlined workflows at every stage of the agreement lifecycle.  In this blog we are covering the evolution of Dynamic Participations in Acrobat Sign until Today: PHASE 1: DYNAMIC PARTICIPATIONS FOR DRAFT AGREEMENTS What's New? Draft agreements are agreements in the authoring phase that have not been sent to recipients for signature. Dynamic Participation was introduced to add a comprehensive suite of capabilities, which allows users to “go back” and fully customize the assigned participants, agreement names and any other details of their agreements before initiating the signing process, avoiding the need to start from scratch. 1) Participant Management: Add, Remove, and Reorder Participants: Easily manage the list of recipients to reflect real-time priorities or organizational needs. Drag and drop participants to change the signing order or remove individuals who are no longer required. 2) Modify Participant Attributes - Update recipient details dynamically, including:         - Name and email address         - Private messages to individual recipients         - Recipient roles (signer, approver, acceptor, form filler, etc.)         - Authentication methods (password, phone authentication, government ID, etc.) 3) CC Management: Add or Remove CCs: Include or exclude individuals who need to be informed about the agreement without being signers. Manage who stays in the loop as your agreement evolves. 4) Flexible Workflow Navigation: Seamless Navigation: Move back and forth between the compose page (where participants are defined) and the authoring page (where fields are placed) effortlessly. Make changes to your participant list, preview how fields are assigned, and return to adjust recipients—all without losing your progress. These capabilities provide additional flexibility, allowing agreements to evolve dynamically during the authoring phase without disrupting the workflow or requiring users to start from scratch.  Why It Matters Adaptability: Agreements often change during the authoring phase due to shifting priorities, new stakeholders joining the process, or organizational restructuring. Dynamic Participation ensures workflows remain agile and responsive, eliminating the need to restart the entire agreement creation process when changes occur. Efficiency: By enabling comprehensive participant and CC management directly within the authoring phase, users can avoid delays and ensure agreements are fully configured and ready for signature faster. No more juggling between drafts or maintaining multiple versions. Collaboration: Dynamic workflows foster better teamwork, allowing multiple stakeholders to contribute to agreements without rigid constraints. Team members can review participant lists, suggest changes, and ensure all the right people are included before sending. Quality Control: Having the ability to refine and perfect the participant list before sending reduces errors, prevents agreements from being sent to incorrect recipients, and ensures compliance with internal approval processes. Increased Workflow Flexibility: Businesses are leveraging the feature to accommodate last-minute changes without restarting the agreement process. Legal teams can adjust recipient lists as contract negotiations evolve, and sales teams can add or remove stakeholders as deal structures change. Enhanced Collaboration: Teams are actively modifying participant attributes and reordering recipients to ensure agreements reflect real-time priorities. The ability to customize private messages for each recipient has improved communication and reduced confusion. Streamlined Processes: Removing unnecessary participants and CCs has reduced complexity and improved signing efficiency. Organizations report faster completion times as agreements are sent only to those who truly need to review or sign. Reduced Errors:The flexibility to review and modify participant lists before sending has significantly decreased instances of agreements being sent to wrong recipients or with incorrect authentication requirements.  PHASE 2: DYNAMIC PARTICIPATIONS FOR IN-FLIGHT AGREEMENTS Building on the success of Phase 1, Dynamic Participation for In-Flight Agreements extends this powerful flexibility to agreements that have already been sent for signature. This represents a significant advancement in agreement management, addressing one of the most requested capabilities from our user community.  What Are In-Flight Agreements? In-flight agreements are agreements that have been sent to recipients and are currently in the signing process. These agreements are actively moving through your organization's workflow, with some recipients potentially having already signed while others are still pending.  What’s New Phase 2 introduces the ability to modify recipient lists for agreements that are already in progress:  1) Remove Recipients From Active Agreements:     - The agreement creator can remove recipients from in-flight agreements, even after the signing process has begun     - Recipients can only be removed if they have not yet signed the agreement     - This ensures flexibility while maintaining the integrity of signatures already collected     - All removal events are logged in the audit report with complete details (email address, name) about the recipients that were removed from the agreement  2) Intelligent Workflow: When the creator modifies an in-flight agreement using Dynamic Participation, a sophisticated workflow is triggered:       a) Agreement Transitions to "In Revision" State:      - The agreement enters a protected “in revision” state during the modification process      - During this state, the agreement is temporarily locked to prevent conflicts      b) Signing and Modification Restrictions:      - Recipients cannot sign the agreement while it is in the “in revision” state     - No other modifications can be made simultaneously, ensuring data integrity  3. Automatic Notifications:      - Once the creator completes the modifications, removed recipients who were previously exposed to the agreement are automatically notified      - Notifications clearly communicate that they have been removed and are no longer part of the agreement      - This maintains transparency and professional communication throughout the process  4. Agreement Reactivation:      - After modifications are completed, the agreement exits the in_revision state      - Remaining recipients can continue with the signing process seamlessly      - Workflow resumes from where it left off, with the updated participant list This feature can also be used in your API workflow mainly by calling Acrobat Sign REST API version 6 endpoints to (A) change the agreement state to IN_REVISION and (B) to update the agreement by removing some recipients.    Why It Matters Real-World Business Agility: Business conditions change rapidly. An employee may leave the organization mid-approval, a department may be restructured, or a stakeholder may no longer need to be involved in an agreement. Phase 2 ensures your agreements can adapt to these real-world scenarios without requiring cancellation and recreation. Cost and Time Savings: Removing the need to cancel and recreate agreements saves significant time and administrative effort. Signatures already collected remain valid, eliminating the need to re-engage recipients who have already completed their part. Compliance and Control: Organizations can maintain better control over who has access to agreements, ensuring compliance with changing business policies or legal requirements even after agreements are initiated. Enhanced User Experience: The in_revision state provides a clear, professional experience for all parties involved. Recipients understand when an agreement is being modified and receive clear communication about any changes to their status. Reduced Cancelations: By enabling modifications to the participant list for agreements in-flight, Dynamic Participations helps organizations avoid the need to cancel and recreate agreements. This capability preserves the work already completed, maintains momentum in the signing process, and eliminates the frustration and administrative overhead associated with restarting agreements from scratch.  Use Cases for In-Flight Modifications Organizational Changes:     - An approver leaves the company mid-process     - A department restructure eliminates a required signatory     - A stakeholder's role changes, removing their signing responsibility     - A recipient was added by mistake Process Optimization:     - Discovering a recipient was added in error     - Realizing certain approvals are no longer required     - Streamlining the signing chain to accelerate completion Legal and Compliance:     - Responding to privacy requests to remove individuals from agreements     - Adjusting participant lists to meet updated regulatory requirements     - Managing confidentiality by removing recipients who no longer need access  CONCLUSION Dynamic Participations represents Adobe's commitment to continuous innovation and user-centric design. By providing additional flexibility in managing agreement participants—both before and after sending—we're enabling organizations to work smarter, respond faster, and maintain complete control over their document workflows.  For more information, tutorials, and detailed documentation, visit the Adobe Acrobat Sign Help Center.

New in Beta: Displacement of Substance 3D Materials on Parametric Meshes

Hello AE Beta users,We have a very fun new feature for you to try in After Effects beta 26.2x31: Parametric Meshes now support displacement of Substance 3D Materials. Displacement uses the material’s height data to push the mesh’s geometry into 3D space. It can add a subtle texture to increase realism and dimension or turn simple shapes into complex, detailed models. Substance 3D materials with displacement can take a simple 3D shape from this:to this!A complex 3D material of stained glass windows in a stone wall applied to a sliced 3D cylinder meshIn addition, Substance 3D materials that include emissive textures will now render correctly, creating the glow visible in the stained-glass windows above or this fracturing planet:Material with both displacement and emissive propertiesNote that Advanced 3D doesn't support true emission; the material will light up, but it won't cast light onto other objects. Getting StartedApply a Substance 3D material (SBSAR) that supports displacement to any parametric 3D mesh. Displacement appearance is controlled by two properties in a new Displacement Options group, accessible in both the Timeline and the Properties panel:Adjust Intensity to change how much the material’s height is pushed in or out of the shape. This property can be animated.  To increase displacement detail, raise the Subdivision Count. This changes how many times the model’s geometry is subdivided before it is displaced. Higher values can use exponentially more memory, so keep this value as low as you need for acceptable visual results.Because they affect a mesh’s geometry, displaced materials will respond to a scene’s lights and shadows like any 3D model. Two Substance 3D materials applied to 3D planesDisplacement can also be used to drive effects. Pre-compose your 3D scene and apply 3D Channel Extract to get the scene’s depth map or apply a 3D channel effect like Fog 3D or Depth of Field to the pre-comp to access the depth data directly. Displaced material on a 3D plane with depth-based effects appliedHere are a few more examples of things you can create:Build realistic, dimensional product shot backdrops that react naturally to your scene’s lights and shadows. Make 3D objects appear to pulse, bulge or crack by animating displacement intensity. Clean up a composite by tracking the camera and adding objects or set pieces to your footage. Add subtle textural detail like fabric weave to elevate flat or minimal designs.  Add a custom Environment light source for extra realism:Terrain created by displacing a 3D planeLooking forward to your feedback!

What's new in Adobe Camera Raw

New in Beta: Object Matte in After Effects

We’re excited to introduce Object Matte in the latest After Effects Public Beta (26.2 build 27) — a major evolution of the Roto Brush workflow.Object Matte shifts rotoscoping from a brush-only workflow to a hybrid approach that combines single-click AI subject selection with precision refinement and intelligent propagation over time. Built on the same AI technology powering Premiere Pro’s Object Mask workflow, Object Matte delivers faster, more intuitive results with significantly less manual effort. What’s New in Object Matte? The Object Matte suite includes four core tools designed for speed, control, and flexibility.Object Selection Quickly isolate objects in your footage with one-click or marquee-based selection (rectangle or lasso). This tool leverages advanced segmentation logic for accurate propagation across frames, reducing manual effort for complex scenes. You can access Object Selection by clicking the icon highlighted in blue. You can select an object in your comp by clicking, or by using the marquee selection options displayed on the right.Quick Selection (formerly Roto Brush) Our classic Roto Brush has been reimagined as Quick Selection, optimized for faster, more intuitive workflows. It’s perfect for users who want brush-driven control with improved responsiveness and UI feedback. Selection Brush For fine-tuned adjustments, Selection Brush allows additive and subtractive strokes with enhanced cursor feedback. Modifier keys make switching between selection modes seamless, similar to Photoshop and Mocha workflows. Refine Edge Maintain natural edges and intricate details like hair with the Refine Edge tool. Our classic Roto Brush tool has a new icon and name: Quick Selection. You can make fine-tuned adjustments to your matte using the Selection Brush tool, and maintain natural edges and details (like hair!) with Refine Edge.Let us know how this is working for you; we're also interested to learn what additional functionalities you may want. Thanks for continuing to be a part of the After Effects community!

New in Beta: Proportional Scrubbing for values in the timeline

We’re excited to announce that as of After Effect Beta 26.2x25,  the blue text property values in your timeline (you know, the ones that you can drag on to change*) has a fun new capability, and we're calling it Proportional Scrubbing. You’ve probably selected a bunch of layers and then scrubbed on the Position X property to mass move them all left or right at the same time, or scrubbed on the Rotation property to rotate them the same amount. Now, with Proportional Scrubbing, you can select a bunch of properties across multiple layers and affect them differently — all at the same time.To use Proportional Scrubbing, simply select a bunch of layers in the order you want to affect them (from least to most) and hold Cmd+Opt on a Mac or Ctrl+Alt on a PC while you scrub the blue text values of any of your selected layers.Instead of just applying the same value change to all layers, the first layer you selected's property value won't change at all, the last layer's property value will change the full amount you drag, and all other layers in between will get a proportionally distributed value based on their order of selection. Hold shift to increase the value change by 10x.And it doesn't just work for the basic layer properties. You can select any property — shape layer properties / effect properties / anything across multiple layers and Proportionally Drag on any one of them and the change will distribute itself across the layers, as always, in selection order. (At the moment, you do have to select the individual properties. We recommend using the Timeline search field to reveal the properties across layers and then marquee select (i.e. drag a box around) the shown properties across your timeline stack.)Please let us know what you think of Proportional Scrubbing and how it works for you!FAQs and NotesThis sounds really complicated, will I enjoy it? If you're familiar with dragging on the blue text in the timeline we think you will immediately intuit how Proportional Scrubbing works. And you may just find it to be very fun to use. Does it matter which layer's blue text I scrub on? No, dragging on the first layer selected or the last or any other in between will have the same effect.Does it work in the properties panel? At the moment, no. But please let us know if you have interest in that. How does it work with keyframes? Just about how you'd expect. If a property is keyframed at a different time, it'll add a keyframe. If there's a keyframe at the frame you're on when you make a change, it'll modify it. And if some of your selected layer's properties are keyframed and some aren't, it'll do the right thing to each one. How does it work across mixed selections? The entire path to the property needs to match, so if you have Camera Lens Blur and Fast Box Blur, you can’t Proportionally Scrub the Blur Radius property across those layers. Similarly with dragging the position Z value for a selection that has some 2D and some 3D layers.* PS. Technically the blue text is called “Hot Text”, but we know you probably just know it by color and not this term so that’s why we call it that here.
