Auto-Size Text - Not Working

Hello, 

We are having an issue with our fillable Adobe Form. 

We have PDF document templates that we edit in Adobe. 

The information in the template is held within a table. 

The last column in the table is where we put the most information. 

Before this issue, the text within this box was set to auto-size; therefore, if there is a lot of text in the box, the text will be small, and if there is little text in the box, the font will be large. 

We recently updated our templates, and the auto-size feature is no longer working. 

We have tried reading through several forums, but have not found a solution. 

We do not want to use the 'scroll long text' option under the prepare form tool, because we lock the PDFs after they are finalized. Therefore, the end recipient would not be able to scroll the text. 

Any help would be appreciated.

In the options tab, is "Allow rich text formatting" checked?  If so, uncheck it.

It is also worth mentioning that the steps below from another post were followed, and the auto-size function still does not work. 

"- Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat (not Reader).
- Go to the “Tools” section and select “Prepare Form.”
- Double-click on the text field you want to modify. This will open the Text Field Properties dialog box.
- In the “Appearance” tab, locate the Font Size setting.
- From the dropdown, select “Auto” to allow the font size to adjust automatically based on the amount of text entered."

Thank you, this resolved the issue! But does this mean we cannot use rich text formatting at all? 

Sometimes we need to italicize text, and having rich text formatting turned on has been the only way we've been able to do so.

When you use rich text formatting you can also change the font size.

RTF has specific properties for text, include size, which does not include "auto" or "shrink to fit".  You would have to write a keystroke script to shrink the text if it exceeds a specific length.

Try right-clicking the field and selecting Properties, instead of doing it via the Fields List. There's a bug in some of the latest versions of Acrobat that causes changes made from that path to not stick. Also, make sure you update Acrobat to the latest version, as that might solve it, too.
