I am constantly being bombarded with annoying Adobe Autocrat update pops and Adobe product promo popups several times each day. How do I stop them?

Hello @GD Gerlach

I hope you are doing well, and thank you for reaching out.

Could you please share more details about the issue? Are you on a Mac or Windows machine, and what is the OS version? Could you share a screenshot of the pop-ups you are getting?

For Promo Pop-Ups, go to Acrobat Preferences: Open Acrobat Reader. Go to Menu (Windows)/Acrobat(Mac)> Preferences > General. Under Messages from Adobe, uncheck "Show me messages when I launch Adobe Acrobat." Click OK and restart the app and the machine.

Disable Automatic Updates (Not Recommended, but Possible)

You can change how Acrobat handles updates, but keep in mind—updates often include important security fixes.

Steps: Open Acrobat Reader, Go to Menu (Windows)/Acrobat(Mac) > Preferences. Select Updater, choose "Do not download or install updates automatically." Click OK. This reduces update pop-ups, but you’ll need to check for updates manually.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

I’m using Windows 10 on a desktop. I downloaded Reader directly from Adobe. I’ve attached a screenshot of the message I get several times a day. I’d love to be able to update manually. I’ve attached a screenshot of Preferences. I don’t see “Updater”.Message    Preferences

Hello @GD Gerlach

Thank you for sharing the screenshot and information. Assuming you have restarted the machine. Please sign out of Acrobat Reader and all other Adobe applications, open the Task Manager, and close all Adobe-related processes. Then use the Acrobat Cleaner tool to remove the currently installed Acrobat Reader app, restart the computer, and install Acrobat Reader from the direct link.

Try the Preferences settings again, and let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Anand Sri.

I followed all of your instructions. Still no Updater in the left column of Preferences.

Hello @GD Gerlach

Could you please share a screen recording of the Preferences and the issue, and send it to us? Also, collect the logs and share them with us for further investigation. To collect the logs, please refer to this article on collecting all logs from the affected machine: Adobe Acrobat Diagnostics. Please share the log and the log ID with us for further investigation.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

I’ve already sent you the screenshot of the preferences “There’s a link in this thread. I tried the Adobe Acrobat Diagnostics but when I got to the step “Preferences, and then select the Enable troubleshooting option from the General tab.” The option wasn’t there.

Hello @GD Gerlach

It appears that some corrupt preferences and installation files are causing the issue. If you have already tried a clean installation using the Acrobat Cleaner tool and are still unable to access the options under Preferences, create a test user profile with full administrative rights, install Acrobat Reader, and then check. Ensure that all mandatory and optional operating system updates are installed.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
