After Effects Time Remapping Loop Out Last Frame Glitch with Snowfall

New Here ,
Dec 11, 2025 Dec 11, 2025

I have precomped a 30sec snowfall over a tiff with some other layers that just turn on and off to simulate Christmas lights blinking. Went into the comp, enabled time remap, moved the last keyframe back one, deleted the last keyframe, and at the spot of the new last keyframe I now get this with lines all over it.

I have cleared cache. Don't know what to do, I need this to loop for 60min.

screenshots show the glitch keyframe and the next frame before/after the keyframe

The first time I rendered it without even knowing it would produce the black frame unless I did the keyframe drop. So I rendered it first and discovered the black frame issue every 30 seconds - so I did the keyframe drop and now this glitch.

It's hard to answer without first seeing the contents of the 'Pre-comp 1' comp, but just in case, you could try extending all layers in that comp by 1 frame (so that they slightly extend past the end of the comp's duration). With luck, that might be an easy solution.

I did try that already as well and made no difference.  Here are a couple screenshots of the layers. There's a bunch of these lightlayers that just pop on and off so I'm not showing every single one but anyway.

Immediately after enabling Time Remapping, try jumping to the second Time Remapping keyframe, step back to the previous frame, click the Add Keyframe button, then delete what's now the third keyframe.  So, you're adding a keyfame at the last interpreted frame instead of nudging the second keyframe.

Additional note:  If for some reason using a loop expression with Time Remapping with a nested Comp isn't getting the right results, there's always the approach of rendering the Comp as a QuickTime movie at Best Settings / High Quality (or Best Settings / High Quality with alpha), importing that back into the project, and then specifying the number of times that the Source Footage should loop in the Interpret Footage (File > Interpret Footage > Main... > Main Options > Other Options > Loop).  This was a common approach to loop footage with one Layer in early versions of After Effects before we had expressions.

Hi Warren,
I did do that to start with, and instead of getting the black screen at the
end of the loop it turned into those glitchy looking lines - which I can
only assume is some sort of interpretation of the snowfall direction but
the snowfall is set to a slow rate so I'm not even sure if that makes sense
or not.

I accidentally replied to the email that came in notifying me of the response. Didn't realize it would show my contact details - can those be removed by moderator please? Don't see a way to edit my response

@joel_4875

I sent a message to the forum moderator about your contact information accidentally being included in your post.

That should be removed soon.

Gettting back to your loop cycle, how does it play if you render a Best Setting / High Quality movie, import that, then sequence duplicates one after the other in a Comp for as many loops as are needed?

This is a weird glitch.  Usually creating a loop cycle is fairly straightforward.

Thank you.

I did a render and then did "Interpret footage" after I imported it and set the loop # to fit the hour so it's fixed now. But it is aggravating to not be able to get it to work right the other way and I'm concerned that it may do the same again later on a different project
