Updated DNS in cPanel - Site not working!

Community Beginner ,
May 01, 2017 May 01, 2017

Hello,

I have a domain name (18thhour.com) that I purchased from Host Gator, who I was using to host my site. A couple of days ago, I changed the DNS server in my cPanel to:

ns1.worldsecuresystems.com

ns2.worldsecuresystems.com

ns3.worldsecuresystems.com

My website is no longer working. I am getting the following error :

This page can’t be displayed

  • Make sure the web address http://18thhour.com is correct.
  • Look for the page with your search engine.
  • Refresh the page in a few minutes.

Is the site propagating? Or can it be assume that I set something up incorrectly? I greatly appreciate all help! A downed site is not good for business.

Hiya,

Have you made sure to 'capture' the domain inside your Business Catalyst (BC) account?

You should have look something like the following inside BC:

Name:Start Page/Domain Forwarding:Country:Culture:DNS:Actions:
18thhour.com(default URL)Home page for your siteWebsite countryWebsite Language (if your in the UK, select English - United Kingdom etc)This ServiceEdit/Delete

Make sure that the DNS field has 'This Server' listed and not External. If you've updated your Name Server for the domain, you're telling the Domain registrar to give BC control of the domain. In doing so you need to tell BC that you want it to control the Domain and any sub-domain via BC - Hence you need to set up to say 'This Service'.

If it doesn't look something similar to the above, try the following:

  1. Delete the Domain from BC.
  2. Click New Domain.
  3. Domain: 18thhour.com
  4. Click Advanced and make sure the following is selected:
Recommended: Use this service to host your website requiring you to re-delegate the domain
Recommended: Use this service for email as well as for hosting the custom domain (or change to the option that is applicable for you)
You can set the other options as you see fit.

  5. Click Save.
  6. Click Close. After clicking close, the page will refresh and your domain name will be listed. If you've update your Name Server correctly (within Host Gator a few days ago) your domain will now start working.

If this doesn't work please make sure you updated your Name Server correctly. Unfortunately there isn't any documentation on how to update the Name Server with HostGator. But they always follow a similar process. Try following some of these resources

Redelegation - Pointing your domain to our name servers from a domain registrar

Kind regards,

Nate C.
