It's 2025 and this "correct" advice no longer works. installed, repaired, uninstalled and re-installed. No. Does not work.

Note that I am trying to use with Framemaker. Advise is to use Acrobat to install. So I have to purchase the non-free version to install even if I do not want Acrobat and need Framemaker to be capable of printing? And there is no option to print to microsoft printer either with Frame.

Avoiding the "Print to PDF" option is a solution.

Hi,

Which FrameMaker version do you have? Since FrameMaker 2015 you can use the Save as PDF command (also available in the Publish pod) to create PDFs. You can use FrameMaker's own PDF engine without Distiller. And you can still set to use the Distiller instead. And of course print to PostScript and then distill to PDF.

Correct: You need the PDF printer to use the Save as PDF command.

Had the PDF printer been installed with the first install? Did it now just vanish?

Please let us know which FrameMaker version you have. Did you update to the latest one? Windows 10 or 11?

You can also contact the FrameMaker support:

E-mails to tcssup@adobe.com are sent to a helpful team for the Technical Communication Suite products including FrameMaker.

Best regards, Winfried

Which “correct” advice?
What FM version?
What platform?

But yes, it should be possible to Save-as-PDF, Print-to-PDF, and Publish-to-PDF from FM without having the full Acrobat product.
