How to get illustrator to let me set the shortest edge width

Community Beginner ,

Hopefully I can make this question make sense.  I need to change the size of the shortest edge of this object. However, because the bounding box is rotated, I'm not able to do it. Clicking "reset bounding box doesn't do anything. Is it possible to make this to where I can just type in th 3.15mm height I need to change the shape?

1. go to Object->Shape->Convert to Shape

2. once it's a Shape, change the height (or width) in the Transform Panel

Thanks...that didn't change anything though. It's already a shape it seems. It seems the bounding box itself needs to be changed, because the measurements in transform are for the bounding box.

Did you use the Apperance Panel and the Rectangle Properties (unlinked)?

I'm sure I'm overlooking this - here is what I see in the Appearance Panel. I've not been able to find anything that says Rectangle Properites (unlinked) - where might that be? I appreciate the help! I've spent hours trying to figure this out at this point 😕

My mistake, I meant the Transform panel.  There should be Rectangle Properties for Width and Height like Carlos screenshot.

Ok I see what's happening, your Object is already a Shape, but it's the wrong type of shape. It's a Polygon, it probably started as an Hexagon and it got the number of sides reduced to four.

Expand the Shape, then Convert it back to a Shape. Is should get converted to a Rectangle Shape. If it does not work, just redraw it using the Rectangle Tool, not the Polygon Tool.

Thanks, it looks like I'm going to have to go the redraw route. When I try to covert to a shape it just gives me an error "cannot be converted to shape" Was deeply trying to avoid having to manually redraw 100 of these 😞

perhaps the shape has more than four anchor points, one on top of another

can you share a file to play with?

I just noticed that your shape has 5 sides (in the Transform Panel), that's probably the reason it's not working
