Endnotes

When I transfer a Word doc into InDesign the endnotes are lost. The reference numbers in the text also disappear. How can I keep all those elements together?

Do you turn on "Show Import Options" while File > Placing the word docx. It might be turned off inside that seldom-seen dialog box.

Import endnotes from Word documents

You can import endnotes from a Word document having endnotes using Microsoft Word Import Options.

Import endnotes from Word documents
  1. Choose File > Place.
  2. Enable Show Import Options

3. Select the Word document that you want to import.

4. Click Open.

All the endnotes are imported and added in a new text frame.
