Bonjour,
Hello,
Since updating InDesign to version 21.1, my PDF exports get stuck at 90%, regardless of which files are open in InDesign. I’ve noticed that reverting to version 21.0.2 allows me to continue working normally. However, I haven’t seen any mention of this issue on the forum.
What do you think?
Thank you in advance, and have a nice day.

Thank you for reaching out and reporting the problem. I am unable to reproduce the issue on my end on a Mac machine on a new file. Would you mind telling us if the issue happens with all files or with a specific file? Please also share the details of your operating system. Does that happen with the new files or files created in the older version?
We will try our best to help.
Thanks,
Harshika

Thank you for your reply,
"Would you mind telling us if the issue happens with all files or with a specific file?"
At first, I thought the bug applied to all of my files. However, after testing again today, I noticed that a file containing no linked images (excluding the vector graphics that were present) exported to PDF without any issues.
When I refer to exporting, I mean: File > Export, format: Adobe PDF (Print) and Adobe PDF (Interactive). Both formats are affected by the issue. When the bug occurs, exporting to Interactive PDF causes InDesign to freeze.
Since the previous version of InDesign does not cause this problem, I should not normally have to question a number of potential technical issues, such as the save location or the nature of the file (corrupted images, etc.)...
Please also share the details of your operating system.
Windows 11 (Pro)
64Giga Ram memory
2Giga Graphics card
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700 CPU @ 2.90GHz (2.90 GHz)
Does that happen with the new files or files created in the older version?
I can see a possible solution emerging from this question.
I initially thought that saving (or saving as) a file created in a previous version was enough to adapt it to the new version. However, your question led me to try copying and pasting the contents of my file (created with the older version) into a new file (created in the new version), and I found that the bug does not occur again. It’s still quite strange, though. In seven years, I don’t recall ever having to do this (i guess i'm lucky).

Hi @VineyardsG42256935,
Thanks for sharing the additional details and for the thorough testing you’ve already done. I tested this on Windows 11 as well by opening and exporting a file created in InDesign 2025 (20.5.1) using the latest version, but I wasn't able to reproduce the export freeze on my side.
As a next step, could you please try saving the affected 2025 file as IDML, then open that IDML in the latest version of InDesign and test the PDF export again.
If the problem still occurs, it would be really helpful if you could share one of the affected files(share a packaged version: https://adobe.ly/4boboRw) created in the older version, so I can test it directly. If the file is confidential, feel free to send it to me via DM using a public cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox.
Please let me know how it goes or once you've had a chance to test this.
Looking forward to hearing back.
Abhishek
