Lightroom classic photos are reverting to original settings

Community Beginner ,
Dec 17, 2025 Dec 17, 2025

My lightroom classic 15.0.1 catalog is behaving strangely for some time and I cannot solve it. All photos seem to revert to their original (pre-edit) state. In Development History, I see entries after the last edit of the following kind (from bottom to top)

From Lr mobile

Multiple settings

Camera Raw settings.

I synch a few albums but not all. When I return to the history element of my last edit the photo displays correctly (i.e. with my edits), and if I make another change of any kind, the above mentioned entries all disappear.

My catalog is >100'000 pictures and it seems to affect all of them - initially I thought only the synched albums but I also see it in non-synched ones.

I have tried searching the forums for a solution to this and whilst I found similar errors, no solution yet. All help appreciated.

"Solved" by reverting to a backup which didn't have this issue, and then having to reimport, index and work on the images worked on since. thanks for the suggestions.

Hi @jans90185495,

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I understand how worrying this is, especially with a large catalog. To help narrow down whether this is catalog-specific or app-related, could you please try the following:

• Update Lightroom Classic to version 15.1 and observe if the behavior continues.

• If you have a recent catalog backup, create a new empty catalog and import that backup into it, then check if edits still revert.

• As a quick test, create a brand-new catalog, import a few test images, apply edits, close and reopen Lightroom, and see if the edits stick. This helps confirm whether the issue lies with the catalog or the application.

• After updating to 15.1, please copy and paste your System Info (Help > System Info) into your reply.

These steps should give us a clear starting point to investigate further.

Thanks for your patience, and we’ll take it from there once we have the results.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini

Or it could be a user mistake! We've seen user mistakes get blamed on Lightroom Classic literally a bazillion times here in the forums. Okay, maybe not a bazillion times but certainly half of a bazillion times.

And maybe its a hardware malfunction. Why limit this to looking at catalog and application only?

Items in the History Panel appear because the user performed some action (perhaps accidentally and thus the user is not aware of this action) that caused something to happen and be recorded in History. I'm not aware of any other explanation for items to appear in the History Panel. I've never heard of a bug that does this. I don't know what actions will cause these items to appear in the History (except for the first one, which seems pretty easy to understand)

Please check recent backup copies of you catalog to see if you can find an earlier version that doesn't have these items in the History Panel.

Hello, thank you for looking into this. Whether it's a bug or user mistake, I would love to solve it. I've upgraded to the latest version, same behaviour. I've went back a few backups (most of which also then had to upgrade the file structure to the latest version), all with the same problem - and the last one that I still have displays an error for each and every photograph "The file could not be found" and won't display any image - though curiously it does show an editing history in development mode, and in that history I do not see the "Multiple Settings" and "Camera RAW settings" that I see in the other catalogs. I do see the occasional "From LR Lightroom", that seems to be only in the photos synched. So in a way this catalog could be better.... but it doesn't display any image.... from one error to another.

I have a similar (or maybe the same ) problem.

I am in lightroom 15.1

on a studio mac with Sequoia 15.6.1

Files that I have previously exported, when I export again, they revert to the raw version.   When I look in the history, it shows 2 exports.  If I revert to the previous export the lightroom edits are back.

I went to a backup and the probelm is still there.  Another interesting problem is that in the develop module, sometimes I cannot move between files without going back out to the library module.  Sometimes that probelm doesn't appear, or even corrects itself part way through a session.

I have 2 catalogues on my system-- one for personal files and one for work files.  It is only the catelogue for the work files that seems to have the problem.
I am attaching a screen print of the history.
