I can’t set Photoshop as an default for .jpg, .tif, .png files. When i try Comand + I and set the default (change all) it jumps back to Acrobat.

Any suggestion?

Using the latest version (2025) and Mac OS 15.0.1 on a MacBook Pro (Intel 2019).

Have you opened Legacy Save As?
If not press ctrl+k>Flie Handing and press Enable legacy "save as".

Not a Mac user, but whenever this happens in Windows, an uninstall-reinstall fixes it.

@focky_9434 this isn't about saving, but about file associations.

Normally you would change file associations in the operating system, but every once in a while it gets stuck, most likely caused by the CC installer removing the old version after the new one is installed.

This might be a deeper issue with your OS if you cannot change file type associations. Can you run the First Aid option from the Disk Utility tool?

Hi @patrickh52162560,

I understand how frustrating it can be when your settings don’t stick, especially when you want to streamline your workflow by using Photoshop as your default for image files. Here are a few steps you can try to ensure Photoshop is set as the default application:

1. Right-Click Method:

•Right-click (or Control-click) on a .jpg, .tif, or .png file.

•Select Get Info from the context menu.

•In the Get Info window, find the Open with section.

•Select Adobe Photoshop from the dropdown menu.

•Click the Change All button to apply this to all files of that type.

2. Sometimes, simply rebooting your Mac after changing the settings can help you apply them correctly.

3. Check for Permissions: Ensure you have the necessary permissions for the files and the applications involved.
Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access

I hope one of these steps helps you set Photoshop as your default image editor! If the issue continues, feel free to ask for more assistance.

Best,
Anshul Saini

I'm also experiencing this issue on Mac OS 15.3, Photoshop 26.3.0. I can set OTHER applications to be the default, but when I try to set it to Photoshop and "change all," it switches to Acrobat. None of the suggested fixes changed this, including uninstall-restart-reinstall-restart.

I'm experienceing the same thing here, mac os 15.3.1, photoshop 26.3, but it has only started in the last couple of days, so presumably it popped up with the recent photoshop update to 26.3 on my machine. Sure is frustrating though!
