P: Brush Lag in ACR Mask

New Here ,
Dec 31, 2025 Dec 31, 2025

I went away on hoilday for a few weeks, and I am back editing. I noticed that only when I am in Camera Raw Filter and I am trying to use the brush to remove or add to a mask or even to use it to create a mask it is really lagging.
It is only in Masks when I have this issue. If I am just painting on a photo or doing anything else I have no problems.

PS 27.2
CamRaw 18.1.1.2422

Mac M2 Max

Hi @JA.Photos, welcome to the community!
Could you check Activity Monitor to see what’s using CPU and RAM? If you notice a non-essential process taking up a lot of resources without a clear reason, stopping it might help. You can also try these general tips to improve Photoshop performance:

If that doesn’t solve it, please share your System Info from Photoshop. You’ll find it under Help > System Info. Just copy it into a text file and attach it here, or share via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or another file-sharing service.
Thanks so much!
Alek

@Aleke

still no luck. it is odd, that i have no issues in PS with the brush only Camera Raw in Masking. I also am using a Wacom Cintque Pro 24PT, but like I said, no issues with PS bush using the Pen, only Camera Raw masking. below is the copy paste thing

attached is the text file

@Aleke also it is only in camera raw.....I just went in LRC and it works 100% no issues....so I am wondering if it is a camera raw problem?

Hi!
Have you tried resetting either the Camera Raw preferences or the CR Brush Mask tool?

Here are directions for both:
To reset your Brush Mask tool in Camera Raw, you can either reset indivdual slider settings by double clicking them, reset the current mask's adjustments with Cmd-Opt-R, or reset the emtire Camera Raw preferences by holding Command while launching Photoshop/Bridge and deleting the preferences file.
You can also hold Command and go to the Photoshop Menu and select Preferences>Camera Raw and click "Yes" when it prompts you to delete them. This will create a new default file.
Let us know if that helps or if you are still having the same issue?
Michelle

@mglushHappy new year. I just tried this and it still did not work. here is a link to an unlisted video on youtube so you can view the issuse. I show how it works great outside of ACR but in ACR in Masks is where I am having the issue.

Hi @JA.Photos, thanks so much for sharing the recording and happy New Year to you too!
I did a bit of digging and found some previous reports from Mac users having similar issues with Wacom tablets in Camera Raw:
https://adobe.ly/49AIZXc
I’ll check with the team to see if this is currently being worked on. In the meantime, a few users mentioned that turning off GPU acceleration in Photoshop preferences helped. Could you give that a try and let me know if it makes a difference on your end?
Thanks!
Alek

@Aleke Ok so i turned the GPU in peferences under Performance. In my honest opion I think it is lagging even more with that off. But I could be worng, it does seem like the lag time is greater with it off than with it on. In anycase that did not help at all.

I'm having pretty much the same issue, but mainly when i use the 'select subject' mask in camera raw. It obliterates PS. Everything starts to lag, and if i'm lucky i'm able to click "done" and get my changes saved, but sometimes i lose a lot of work.
