Problem using alt click to hide other layers

A nice feature of photoshop is the ability to alt-click the eye on a given layer so that all other layers are hidden.  Alt-click again, and they are again revealed.  I have a file in which that feature stopped working.  I can take any layer or subset of layers, duplicate them into a new document, and the feature will work perfectly with those layers in that new document.  I tried resetting preferences, but that didn't fix the problem.  If I alt-click the eye on any layer in that file (but only in that file) the action produces no result.  Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Hi,

It is possible that something has been corrupted in that file. Have you tried duplicating the layer that it doesn't work on in that same file and try Option clicking to see if it works? If it does then something is wrong with the original layer. If it doesn't then something is probably corrupted in the file. If you can duplicate the file and it works, then I would continue using the new file for your document. Hold onto the old one if you need to.

Let us know if that helps,

Michelle

Hi @Doc_Pit, thanks for reaching out!
Could you let us know what version of Photoshop you’re using? Also, how large is the file and how many layers does it have? When you hide a layer normally in that file, does it work as expected or does that fail too?
If you can share a screenshot of the full Photoshop window, including the Layers panel, that would really help us take a closer look.
Thanks so much!
Alek

It must be that something was corrupted in the file.  It was strange because at night there was no problem.  Next morning, alt+click not working.  If I duplicated any subset of layers to a new file, everything worked.  So, the obvious workaround was to duplicate all layers to a new file, then save the new file. Thanks for the help.
