How do I use the old way of masking?

I feel like I'm just missing something simple, but I used to be able to set up a mask and then move through the video and edit the mask (move the points) and change the way it looked. Now it seems to stay the same without morphing. I like the new object mask. It is awesome. But is there a way to also do the old way, where you can control what's going on?

I am guessing you are using the beta.

And the answer is no: no way to use the old ways.

Thank you for replying. I do appreciate you taking the time. I think I figured it out and got it working. It turns out I was able to use Grok and poke around.

Here is what Grok said -

The issue is likely that your Program Monitor is set to "Clip" mode instead of "Frame" mode. In Clip mode, moving points adjusts the mask for the entire clip at once (no per-frame changes or keyframes). You need Frame mode for manual rotoscoping/keyframing the shape over time.

Here's the fix:

  1. Look at the top of your Program Monitor (the big preview window). There should be a dropdown or toggle buttons saying Clip and Frame (it appears once you have a mask selected/active).
  2. Click Frame to switch it. Now, when you move the playhead and adjust points in the Program Monitor, it should automatically add keyframes to Mask Path in the Effect Controls panel.
