Videos not dropping into sequences in project all of a sudden

Lenovo Laptop

Win 11 Pro

32GB RAM

NVME 1TB SSD

RTX 4050

PrPro 25.4/25.5/25.6 (all tried)

Scratch drive is external USB-C SSD 2TB

I have a project that I have been working on for 7 months now.  All was fine until yesterday when my project suddenly would not allow me to add videos to my sequences.  Only the audio appears in the sequence.  So to be very clear, When I grab a video asset and drag it to the timeline, the audio portion appears in purple moving left and right until I place it... but the video portion does not appear at all, I get the red circle with a slash through it in the video layers.  This happens with ALL video assets.  All existing videos work and play just fine.  I can add images, audio, anything except the visual portion of any video.  All assets can import into asset panel just fine.

If I go to any old project, they all work just fine.  If I create a new project in a new folder, it works just fine.  If a create a new project in the same project folder that my current project is in, the new project will not allow video to be added to sequences.  I have created new projects in other folders and imported my current project/sequences (tried entire and select sequences in seperate tests) and they will not work properly (same issue).  If I create a new folder in windows, create a new PrPro Project, create new sequences, they work just fine... but once I import my current project's current sequence, I can no longer create any working sequences (although in this test project, any sequence that I make before the import occurs continues to work just fine.).  I have double-checked all settings and preferences and can find NO deviation from normal working projects or sequences in other projects.  Please advise.

I have rolled back Adobe, I have uninstalled/reinstalled, I have done a reset, cleared cache, I have copied all files from project folder into a new folder and copied the project... same results (issue remains)... so no matter what I try, I cannot seem to open this project and edit it.

Please keep in mind that I have been working on this since May.  So starting over is not an option.

Hi @tex_4419

Thank you for reporting a problem and sorry you've been experiencing issues. A few questions:

  • What kind of media files are you working with and does this happen with all video file types (eg. mp4 vs .mov)?
  • Did these issues coincide with any operating system or driver updates?
  • Are you able to double-click and open up these files in the Source monitor to scrub and play them without issues?
    • If you can, are you able to use the 'Insert' and 'Overwrite' buttons to add to your tim

Hi @tex_4419

  • Any external monitors or displays in use?

And just to rule out, is your source patching set-up correctly (is V1 highlighted on the left side of the timeline when dragging)?

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani

Ann,

Thanks for your reply... The short answer is no.  The complete answer is that I had checked that and the answer was yes... now it is not showing.  So I checked this and the "V1" for source patching was not appearing ANYWHERE on any track.  No matter what I clicked, it would not appear so that I could set it.  Now, suddenly it's here.  Now, yes, video will import into my sequence timeline.  So the issue is "solved" although I do not know what in the world caused ALL of my sequences in my project to suddenly lose this.  And, if I opened a new project and placed it in certain folders in Windows, this problem persisted.  Other folders, the problem went away.  Also it changed daily.  This was frustrating.
Either way I'm going to mark this solved.  SO, again, thank you.

Open a clip from the project panel into the source panel first. This will trigger the source patching.
