AI has trouble with human skin. Try using a smaller selection. Alternatively, use other editing methods that don't rely on AI, like Clone/Stamp & Patch tools.
IMO, Generative Fill is fine for limited use cases. But it's not a replacement for other replacement tools. Some things are best done manually.

Reinstalling does not reset Preferences, but before you do that, is this all the time regardless of what tool or function is selected? If it was only with the Brush tool, for instance, then resetting that tool would restore it to its defaults.
A full manual preference reset would be the way to go me thinks.
https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually
Let us know if that fixes it. I am not sure where we'd go from there though.

hyp_8116 is correct. You can also do a comand tab to another application and tab back to Photoshop. This works as well. I find when I first start PS if I go to the library and click on it before opening a RAW file in ACR it seem to work well.

The size you see when open in Photoshop has little relationship to the size of the saved file on the drive. That obviouslt depends on the format. i.e. a 3000 X 2000 pixel image with lots of colour variation might be 10Mb saved as a TIFF or PSD, but only 500KB saved as a high quality JPG.
Tell us a bit about the book you are working on? How big will the printed images be? If it is a fairly large book and the images are going to be printed 10 inches on their long side, then 10 X 300(dpi) = 3000 pixels
That's the important math. If it was only 1000 pixels on the longs side, then its quality would be poor if printed at 10 inches.

I am dealing with the exact same thing, and I teach the program. I keep resetting the essentials however the essentials have very much changed. I also click window > layers > and nothing. It is like the layers panel has dissapeared!

Thanks Bojan. I did end up using guides, which helped. I still wasn't able to line things up exactly, but I worked things out. I had created a jpeg previously from a crop of the main image, but had failed to save the cropped image as a tif so that's what I was wanting to do. Whether that was necessary only time will tell. I took the dimensions off that jpeg and that may have been part of my problem too.

I assume that the lines in your drawing are way too thin even for the increased resolution.
Also: did you already set the rendering quality in InDesign to a higher setting? Or try the Overprint preview?

Just tested, you are correct. Would you mind recording the set path or inserting the path step followed by the transform path step, with a modal for the transform path allowed to temporarily solve the problem? In the past, I recorded several commercial actions and never used the Crop tool; I always opted for Insert Path, followed by Transform Path if necessary.

When saving a file in Photoshop that I already retouched it doesn't give me the option to save as .jpg WHY?
By @Valeria_Ascencio2720
You might need to check Enable legacy "Save As" in Preferences > File Handling.

If you can't find a function in any of the Menus/sub-menus or right click menus, then AFAIK, we can't change its shortcut (if it has one). You can't use an action to control such a function ether (AFAIK).

The keyboard shortcut is simply the bracket keys (no modifiers): [ to go left, ] to go right
Just for fun: the period (.) and comma (,) keys will cycle through the gradient presets

OK so I have used the Save for Web Legacy for exporting an image that is cut up with Slices from Grids for Instagram panos & grids by exporting a folder of jpgs. It always worked fine. The issue I'm having all of a sudden is that all of the images are exported as gifs except the last one which is exported as a jpg. I tried mixing the gifs & jpgs and they don't line up perfectly? I've tried selecting jpgs in the drop down, using jpg presets, I also reset my preferences, nothing works? I also hae tried this in Photoshop 2024 & 2025. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

...but the answers involve scripting and honestly I did not understand... Thank you in advance.
By @ipanema451
Full instructions for saving and running scripts were provided in links to my blog.
Copy the code text to the clipboard
Open a new blank file in a plain-text editor (not in a word processor)
Paste the code in
Save as a plain text format file – .txt
Rename the saved file extension from .txt to .jsx
Install or browse to the .jsx file to run (see below) https://prepression.blogspot.com/2017/11/downloading-and-installing-adobe-scripts.html
Or If you prefer videos over text: https://www.marspremedia.com/software/how-to-adobe-cc

just in case anyone is wondering, I had the same issues recently but it turns out my wireless mouse just needed a new battery lol what gave it away was the fact that it started in photoshop, but then spread to my windows system entirely so I knew then it wasnt an adobe problem. I plugged in a different mouse and it went away so thats how I figured it out lol a simple solution that some might not think of immediately, hope that helps

Stephen, thanks! This is part of why I've never gotten into smart objects. So confusing to learn. Do you agree, in this case/ scenario.. (read thread), maybe i'm best just adding a new merge visible to the top of all alwyers for the unsharp mask?

I have the same problem. It works fine in 2024 but the new 2025 keeps overwriting the last image with the same file name. I have tried deleting the whole action and re recording it, I have tried taking out save and re adding it, it just doesn't work.

This doesn't solve it if you are trying to save more than one document. The "_copy" document keeps getting overwritten instead of creating "_copy2", "_copy3", etc. Anyone else knows how to fix this? I'm trying to automate saving a large amount of files that hopefully will result in an image sequence labeled with crescent numbers. Thank you.

When using Batch, check the "override action save command" checkbox.

I haven't experienced any real lag in Photoshop on my three Windows 11 systems under conditions similar to what is being described. I don't think the problem is necessarily Photoshop. The systems have varying hardware. One is an i7 9700k with 64GB of 3200MHz DDR4, a 1TB 970 Pro and a 6GB 1060. The second is a Threadripper 2950x with 128GB of 3200MHz DDR4, 2 1TB 970 Pros (scratch) and a 2TB Aorus (boot), and two RTX2080s. The third is a Threadripper 3955wx with 256GB of 3200MHz DDR4, 2TB FireCuda 530 (boot) 8x2TB FireCuda 530 RAID10 array (programs), 400GB P DC5800x (scratch) and a 6.4TB D7-P5620 (backup), with an RTX3090ti.

I suspect the original poster might have been wondering about the extent of the image beyond the Selection’s bounds is transferred over the web.
• This could be significant in case of big images and limited bandwidth.
• If the concern is customer confidentiality I think this should be a non-issue – if I remember correctly Adobe/Firefly does not permanently store the image data after processing.

Save as, does not include .jpg anymore!
By @idimtsas
JPEG is a rather restrictive format, requiring: A flattened image (no floating layers), 8 bpc, no alpha channels. If the current file doesn’t meet this criteria, then one has to Save a Copy, or enable Legacy Save As in your File Handling Preferences/Settings.
If your file is in 32 bpc mode, then it needs to first be converted to 16 or 8 bpc before Save a Copy/Legacy Save As can list JPEG.
Note that Export As silently performs background conversions so that JPEG is always available without having to take extra steps.

I do agree that it's nice that Adobe does provide options that suit different needs. I can probably agree that a one-size-fits-all solution is not the best way to go. The one point where I would disagree with your summary is on with the statement "PSE Organizer is good for home/family/hobby organizing..." I've been a serious amature, moderately successful professional, and now back to a serious amature photographer. PSE Organizer has done almost everything that I needed and I think in many ways is preferable for the kind of photography I do. For awhile I've been trying to think of things that I would like to do with my image collection and can't do with the PSE Organizer. I haven't really come up with anything. My synopsis of it is that it has a rich set of features, is easy to use, and has a comfortable UI. When I made my initial post, I was hoping that someone would suggest a cataloging system that I had never heard of before and that would give me a chance to see if it was any better than what I'm using now. That never happened. Fortunately I'm not in a bind and needing to find something else.
