Edit Colors Menu Greyed Out

Just downloaded Illustrator 2026 onto my new computer (after previously working with the 2024 version).

Trying to edit the colors in my files and the "edit colors" menu is completely greyed out. I've tried what seem like all the obvious solutions and I'm not getting anywhere.

Already checked for:

- Locked Layers

- RGB vs CMYK color mode

- Switching files to see if the issue was with the file

- Releasing the mask

- Selecting an individual color

- Selecting different layers of the artwork

I assume that your file is not a grayscale file and that your file is vector, not bitmap (if bitmap you can Live Trace to convert to vector).

Sometimes a restart of Illustrator/your machine will help.

Resetting Preferences is another option.

Try Recolor Artwork. Dose it works when you go into isolation mode for seperate objec in your artwork?
